Berliner Glas Group is taken over by semiconductor group ASML

ASML, the Dutch manufacturer of lithography systems for microchip production, is taking over Berliner Glas KGaA, including all its locations. The company thereby acquires competencies in Deep Ultraviolet Lithography (DUV, 193 nm wavelength) and Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV, 13.5 nm), among others, which fits into ASML's product strategy. The management of the Berliner Glas Group will continue to lead the company. Also the Contact persons for customers and suppliers remain the same. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the fourth quarter of 2020, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

ASML wants to keep Berliner Glas Group as a whole

"The combination of the technology and capabilities of the Berliner Glas Group and the size of ASML in both R&D and manufacturing will support the further development and roll-out of future EUV systems", comments Frits van Hout, Chief Strategy Officer at ASML. He adds: "In this transaction ASML is also acquiring businesses that serve other industries. We intend to manage the Berliner Glas Group in such a way that these divisions can continue to focus on offering competitive products to their customers that are tailored to their needs".
