Excelitas opens new plant in Göttingen

Excelitas Technologies is expanding its capacities in the assembly of highly complex optomechanical systems and components for the semiconductor industry: On September 21, 2021, the photonics manufacturer opened a new plant for its subsidiary Qioptiq in Göttingen.

The construction investment amounted to around 25 million euros, supplemented by around 5 million euros for systems and equipment. This includes a photovoltaic system, a state-of-the-art automatic material store and an ultrasonic cleaning system that meets the highest purity requirements for optical components in the semiconductor industry. The new Excelitas location in the Science Park Göttingen will initially have an area of approx. 18,000 m².

The newly built, tailor-made production hall offers a usable area of approx. 6,700 m², of which around 1,500 m² are clean rooms of the very high cleanliness class ISO5. Excelitas had already invested substantially in new clean rooms at its headquarters in Königsallee in Göttingen in 2012, 2015 and 2017. At both ultra-modern locations, the company now has around 2,600 m² of clean rooms for the assembly of optical and optomechanical systems as well as for coating and other optical production processes.
