Hamamatsu achieves fat sales increase in the fourth quarter of 2020

Photonics specialist Hamamatsu's fourth-quarter 2020 sales rose 5.6 percent year-on-year to 36.4 billion yen (about 288 million euros). Operating profit rose 3.4 percent to 171 million yen (about 1.35 million euros). Products for medical applications in particular sold well.

The "Imagig and Measurement Instruments" division, however, grew even more strongly: although sales of X-ray line scan cameras for food inspection declined. On the other hand, sales of scanners for medical applications increased, particularly in the USA and Europe. These included cameras for PCR tests, which are used for corona diagnosis, among other things.

Accordingly, sales rose 35.9 percent to 5.06 billion yen (about 39.98 million euros). Operating profit increased to 907 million yen (around 7.16 million euros).
