The company cooperates with Hexagon Robotics in the development and supply of rotary actuators based on its own actuator platform. These integrate electric motors, power electronics and encoders and are designed with two-stage planetary or shaft gears, depending on requirements. They are intended for central joints of humanoid robots such as shoulders and elbows. At the same time, Schaeffler plans to deploy around a thousand humanoid Aeon robots from Hexagon in its global production network over the next seven years.

Schaeffler has also agreed a partnership with VinDynamics from the Vietnamese Vingroup to develop and supply planetary gearboxes. The two companies will jointly collect robot and application-related data in order to optimize actuators and create the basis for services such as predictive maintenance. Schaeffler is thus expanding its humanoid ecosystem to include a partner in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time.
