Scantinel Photonics erhält 2021 Best Practices Technology Innovation Leadership Award

Scantinel’s approach to using frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) lidar sensors for obstacle detection and avoidance, object detection and tracking, and simultaneous localization and mapping is considered a game changer and is a key component in the field of autonomous driving. Scantinel is thus considered a pioneer in the field of photonic integrated circuits (PIC) based FMCW lidar systems.

Autonomously driving cars, robo-taxis or unmanned industrial vehicles can use lidar sensors to detect objects up to three hundred meters away, even under difficult environmental conditions such as fog, snow, or dust. FMCW lidar will help autonomous driving achieve a breakthrough and, according to experts, completely displace the currently used time-of-flight (TOF) lidar systems from the market. Frost & Sullivan distinguishes Scantinel because its solution sets it apart from its competitors in that the German startup is working on a new generation of sensors that is, on the one hand, technically advanced and, on the other hand, will be highly integrable – and that in large-scale production at a competitive price, which in turn is a key criterion for the automotive industry in particular.

In addition to the future technology, Frost & Sullivan is equally distinguished by the industry-experienced management team and the technical expertise of the developers. Frost & Sullivan analysts also rate the commitment of Zeiss Ventures and the entry of Scania Growth Capital via Series A financing as success factors for a promising economic future.

“Frost & Sullivan recognizes that Scantinel Photonics’ photonically integrated coherent FMCW lidar sets it apart from its competitors because it will ultimately bring a new generation of lidar sensors with advanced capabilities,” said Varun Babu, Industry Analyst, TechVision.

“We are pleased to receive this recognition and appreciate the quality of Frost & Sullivan’s analysis,” said Dr Michael Richter, commercial managing director, Scantinel. “Photonics is one of the most innovative high-tech industries and contributes significantly to the technological advancement and solution of autonomous driving. The award is further motivation for us that we can contribute to the safety of future mobility with our lidar system.”
