More production capacity for the world’s smallest lenses
GD Optical Competence GmbH is investing around six million euros in its new production and administration site in the community of Sinn. On May 6, 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the construction of the company's new nearly 2,000-square-meter production facility.
With a view to the positive development of the past years and the goal of further driving the sustainable transformation of the company, the management and shareholders have decided in favor of a new shareholders have decided in favor of a new building on a greenfield site. This creates the best conditions for the company to pursue the growth course described in its corporate growth course described in the corporate strategy. “The connectedness and proximity of our employees and our company to the community of Sinn was decisive for us in deciding to remain in our home region,” says Gerhard Dross, shareholder and founder of GD Optics.
At its new address “Zur Dornheck 24 in 35764 Sinn”, the company also takes into account the aspect of work-life balance with generous green spaces. The new location offers a variety of advantages with regard to productivity. In addition to doubling the production area, in which the special growth area of micro-optics was taken into account, the capacities in the area of optical coatings can also be duplicated. The diameter of the smallest lens in the world produced by GD Optics is only 0.2 millimeters.
The focus of the company’s growth is on quickly adaptable capacities, short response times to customer requests and the production of large quantities. A planned upgrade in numerous research, measuring and production facilities will also be realized after completion of the new building. Furthermore, the area for engineering and administration will also be doubled. GD Optics is thus creating ideal conditions for its expansion strategy.
“The great advantage of a new building is that we were able to tailor all the structural details precisely to our specific requirements. Starting with production, through modern creative spaces, to sustainable building technology. Our goal is to manufacture all optics in a climate-neutral manner in the future. We do not only want to reduce C02, but also enable sustainable growth for our customers,” explains Winfried Czilwa, managing director of GD Optics.
To realize GD Optics’ ambitious sustainability goals, a large and powerful photovoltaic system is planned for the company's own power supply, which will also provide energy to feed into the public grid. Numerous charging stations for electric vehicles will be available to GD Optics' employees and visitors. In this way, the company's own e-mobility concept will help to significantly reduce pollutant emissions and noise pollution from conventionally powered vehicles. The new building itself will be even more energy efficient than the KfW-55 standard.
