Ronny Stolz appointed honorary professor at TU Ilmenau

The physicist has been working at Leibniz IPHT since 1994 and heads the quantum systems department since 2019.

Starting in the winter semester of 2022/2023, bachelor’s and master’s students at Technische Universität Ilmenau benefit from this expertise and decades of quantum technology experience in courses on quantum engineering. Stolz works on research projects such as SuperLSI (Highly Integrated Superconducting Nanostructures for Quantum Technologies) and HiQuP (Highly Integrated and Scalable Interface Circuits for Quantum Processors). His team’s research interests include the improvement of quantum systems through new superconducting circuits and their fabrication technologies. In the collaborative project QSolid (Quantum Computer in the Solid State), he and his team are contributing to the construction of a complete quantum computer.

“Quantum technologies promise to rapidly impact areas of our daily lives. In medical technology, material research, or the processing of very large amounts of data – in all these areas, quantum technologies play a fundamental role today and in the future. I’m looking forward to the new challenge that TU Ilmenau is offering me. Above all, I look forward to being able to provide young engineers of tomorrow with the tools they need to develop these key and future technologies at the interface of quantum technologies, physics, and electronics engineering,“ says Ronny Stolz about his appointment.

He joined the Leibniz-Institut für Photonische Technologien in Jena in 1994. In 2017, he received the prestigious ESAS Excellence Award from the European Society for Applied Superconductivity (ESAS) for his scientific achievements in the field of superconductors.
