Siemens and LG Energy Solution enter into partnership

Siemens and LG Energy Solution (LGES), a battery manufacturer, have signed a letter of intent. In the future, the two companies will intensify their cooperation in the field of battery production, in particular the digitization of production processes.

With the agreement, signed by Cedrik Neike, Member of the Management Board of Siemens AG and CEO Digital Industries and Young Soo Kwon, CEO of LG Energy Solution at LGES headquarters in Seoul, the two companies will take steps to make the process smarter To optimize battery cell production in LGES production facilities worldwide.

Through this strategic collaboration, LGES will be able to implement intelligent battery manufacturing processes in global factories. A first production line will be realized at Ultium Cells LLC, a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors based in Tennessee, which is expected to start production in 2023. In addition, the collaboration will enable LGES to reduce its carbon footprint across the supply chain, thereby improving the sustainability of its business operations.

The companies will also work to build a digital twin roadmap to ensure stable operations in the facilities and offer top quality products at the right time. The companies will also jointly develop training programs for the Institute of Battery Technology (IBT) and train LGES employees there.
