Change at the top of the Sick Management Board

Dr. Mats Gökstorp becomes Chairman of the Executive Board

21.05.2021 - The sensor manufacturer Sick is changing the top of its management board on October 1, 2021: Then Dr. Robert Bauer will take his leave and Dr. Mats Gökstorp will follow to take the place as CEO. At the same time, Dr. Niels Syassen will be appointed to the Executive Board. He will assume responsibility for Technology & Digitalization.

Sick AG will bid farewell to its long-serving CEO Dr. Robert Bauer on September 30, 2021, after 20 years of service. His move to the top of the Supervisory Board is planned for May 2022, where he will succeed the retiring Chairman of the Supervisory Board Klaus Bukenberger. Dr. Mats Gökstorp, who is already responsible for Products & Marketing on the Management Board, will succeed Bauer as CEO on October 1, 2021. Dr. Niels Syassen will take over responsibility for Technology & Digitalization from Dr. Bauer.

Dr. Mats Gökstorp has been responsible for Products & Marketing since January 1, 2021. He will continue to hold this position after becoming Chairman of the Executive Board. The computer scientist and engineer joined the company in 2003 with the acquisition of Sick IVP. As a member of the Executive Board, he was responsible for vision products and later for sales processes in the Group from 2007 before being appointed to the Executive Board for Sales & Service on May 1, 2013. In recent years, he has been responsible for the global alignment of sales structures.

Dr. Niels Syassen has been responsible for the Gas and Particle Analysis Solutions division since 2018. Before joining Sick in 2017, he held management positions in product development at Bosch in the business field of automotive electronics and at Dräger Safety in the business field of industrial gas measurement technology. He studied physics with a focus on lasers, optics and semiconductors at the Technical University of Munich and Imperial College in London. In 2008, he received his doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics.

Dr. Robert Bauer joined the company in 1994 as Business Unit Manager Research and Development Automation Technology. From 1998 onwards, he held overall responsibility for research and development on the Executive Board. He was appointed to the Executive Board on January 1, 2000, and became Chairman of the Executive Board on October 1, 2006. At the request of the owner family, he is to succeed Klaus Bukenberger as Chairman of the Supervisory Board in May 2022.

Bukenberger has been a member of the Supervisory Board since 2002 and Chairman since 2005. As part of the generational change, he will not stand for re-election to the Supervisory Board in May 2022 after 20 years of service.
