Fraunhofer Vision organizes practice seminar on surface inspection

27.08.2019 -

With the seminar »Inspection and Characterization of Surfaces with Image Processing« on 4 and 5 December 2019 at the Fraunhofer IOSB in Karlsruhe, the Fraunhofer Vision Alliance continues its seminar series. The practical seminar teaches expertise in surface inspection technology and provides information on its potential applications in industrial quality assurance.

Content of the seminar on surface inspection

The surface inspection is a classic field of industrial image processing and has been implemented industrially for many years in a variety of applications. However, the ongoing advances in technology continue to allow not only higher testing speeds and more compact designs in the systems, but also the capture of additional surface properties such as topography down to the nanometer range in addition to the traditional evaluation of two-dimensionally recorded textures. In addition, for example, even colored, transparent, highly reflective or reflective surfaces can be quickly and reliably tested for errors. The participants of the seminar gain an insight into the state of the art in the field of surface inspection and the characterization of surfaces and become acquainted with the possibilities and current limits of the automatic surface inspection in order to be able to derive guidelines for investment planning in their own companies.

The seminar is composed of theory and practice. In the first, theoretical part, after an introduction to the image acquisition and the construction of systems for surface inspection, the presentation of typical methods for recording and evaluation or analysis of image and measurement data takes place and an overview of practically relevant applications is given.

As part of the practical part, different surface inspection systems are available, where personal experience can be gained in small groups. In the discussion with the trainee supervisors, individual questions regarding their own application, e.g. on the basis of previously submitted samples of the participants to be clarified.
