IDS Application Days: Image processing knowledge about automation, robotics vision and AI

29.08.2019 -

During the IDS Application Days 2019, specialist presentations and application examples on automation, robot vision and AI focus on the top issues of industrial image processing. The speakers from IDS and MVTec have different demo systems in their luggage that reflect typical practical requirements. Participants not only experience uEye and Ensenso 3D cameras in action, but also learn how Halcon and Merlic help solve image processing tasks. Registration for the conference is possible until September 13, 2019.

By 6th September 2019, quick-starters will benefit from reduced early-bird prices.

The first day of the event will be dedicated to automation, 3D vision and robotic applications such as Pick & Place. For example, the first session deals with the question of how to efficiently take pictures of objects with changing depth of field. Often in such scenarios, multiple cameras or complex mechanical structures are used. The speakers show why cameras with liquid lens lenses are better suited. Image processing also plays an important role in pick & place applications. The participants not only get to know the essential technologies - from the generation of rich 3D data, to the localization of objects, to handle and path planning and simulation of scenarios - but also to be able to evaluate possible solutions for their applications.

The second day of the event will focus on topics such as artificial intelligence and deep learning. The technology is now being used more and more often when rule-based image processing is no longer sufficient - for example, when capturing and identifying variant-rich objects such as plants. However, many users still do not know exactly how to handle it. On the one hand, the speakers therefore introduce the topic in general terms and, on the other hand, use examples of applications to show what KI can do in the meantime. Using an example from medical technology, the participants will be able to understand the entire process from problem definition to pixel-precise labeling and training of a neural network to image classification using Halcon. In addition, the speakers introduce the Halcon Deep Learning Tool and provide insights into other AI-based customer applications, for example in the agricultural sector. Who before this - i.d.R. But quite complex - technology is scared off, will be surprised. IDS explains step-by-step how, even without programming knowledge, a neural network can be trained to classify images and execute them directly on an industrial camera.
