VDI awards medal of honor to Prof. Dr. Michael Heizmann

01.12.2023 - In recognition of his many years of voluntary work in the VDI/VDE Society for Measurement and Automation Technology, Prof. Dr. Michael Heizmann was awarded the VDI badge of honor in mid-November.

Prof. Heizmann has been chairman of the " Machine Vision in Measurement and Automation Technology" technical committee since 2006. Under his leadership, the highly regarded VDI/VDE/VDMA 2632 series of guidelines was developed, which defines the basic terms, provides recommendations for the creation of requirement and functional specifications and describes the procedures for the acceptance and testing of classifying image processing systems.

As a member of the "Fundamentals of Measurement and Information Systems" technical committee, he is part of the team that identifies future topics such as intelligent, networked sensors or quantum sensor technology and organizes VDI expert forums to transfer know-how into industrial practice. Prof. Heizmann is also Chairman of the GMA "Methodology of Measurement and Sensor Technology" department and is involved in the GMA Advisory Board and the GMA Board of Directors with an eye on the big picture.

As co-author of the VDI status reports "Machine Learning" and "Machine Learning in SMEs", he helped lay the foundation for the establishment of the "Neural Networks in Sensor Data Processing" technical committee, which has been active since the beginning of 2023.

In addition to his activities in the VDI, Prof. Heizmann is co-organizer of the annual European Machine Vision Forum together with the EMVA - European Machine Vision Association, which connects the world of science with that of industry. Heizmann is also a jury member of the renowned inspect award, which honors the best products and solutions in industrial machine vision and optical measurement technology every year.
