Wenglor focuses on machine vision

Wenglor MEL business unit is strengthened

02.07.2021 - The sensor and machine vision expert Wenglor Sensoric realigned its internal development centers and business units at the beginning of June. Thus, the areas of 2D machine vision, 2D/3D sensors, code scanners and software were combined in the Wenglor MEL business unit. In turn, the development and production of optoelectronic and inductive sensors takes place in the Sensor Technology business unit. In this way, the Group intends to strengthen its two business units Sensors and Machine Vision.

"By bringing together and expanding the hardware and software departments under one roof, particularly in the area of machine vision, synergies can now be exploited even before and during the development phases of new products. The close integration of the two disciplines has long since reached the market - the boundaries are fluid," explains Group Managing Director Rafael Baur, who is responsible for the development and research centers worldwide.

With this realignment, the existing Wenglor MEL business unit is gaining significant weight. Previously, it was only responsible for 2D/3D sensors. Machine vision software, machine vision and smart cameras, 1D/2D and barcode scanners were added in June.

Sensors area also being expanded

Not only is the machine vision division receiving a structural update, but the larger sensor business unit is also being further expanded. High-performance sensors previously developed at Wenglor MEL will now be produced at the main site in Tettnang and further developed under the management of Volker Schnell. In the course of this, development capacities will increase by almost 20 percent.

"Both units - sensors and machine vision - are strengthened by the new organization and competencies are bundled," summarizes Baur.
