Double data rate in embedded vision systems

06.10.2022 – Framos makes GMSL3-Technology accessible for embedded vision applications.

Camera developers can validate a variety of image sensors in the lab and field with the flexible Sensor Module Ecosystem and transmit high frame rates such as 4K at 90 fps up to 14 m with GMSL3.

The interface is suitable for applications where the cable length of MIPI CSI-2 (D-PHY) is insufficient, while requiring low latency and power consumption with low cost and robust cabling.

Until now, GMSL2 with 6 Gbit/s has been the trend-setter in automotive applications. GMSL3 is characterised by a doubling of the data rate to 12 Gbit/s. The SerDes solution with PixelMate connector and interface has been seamlessly integrated into the Sensor Module (FSM) ecosystem. It consists of two Functional Adapters (FFA) - one serialiser and one deserialiser board each - which are connected via a coaxial cable of up to 14 m length with Fakra connectors, as known from the automotive environment. The modular design allows a seamless upgrade of existing FSM devkits with MIPI CSI-2 (D-PHY) interface.
