100% inline thickness measurement of strip and sheet materials

Micro-Epsilon

The thicknessGauge systems provide highly accurate thickness values for strip and plate materials. In addition to the C-frame models, they can also be integrated into the production line as an O-frame version. By using various sensor technologies such as laser scanners, laser triangulation sensors, confocal sensors and electromagnetic combination sensors, they can be adapted to the measurement task and the object surfaces to be measured.

The systems enable 100% inline thickness measurement. The adaptability enables adaptations in terms of measuring width, measuring range and working range of the strip material to be measured. The system is automatically calibrated regularly and within a few seconds. A software package is also included in the scope of delivery. This includes, among other things, high-performance signal processing for precise and stable measured values, an article database and an SPC package. Furthermore, statistical evaluations as well as fully automated documentation and control of the production process are possible. Also included is continuous monitoring of defined target parameters and limit values. The software package also contains a flexible interface for coupling to the production line, which can communicate via Ethernet, Ethernet/IP, Profinet and EtherCAT.

Model selection

Various models are available from Micro-Epsilon. The C.L series works with laser triangulation sensors. Thickness values of wood, plastic and metal are recorded with an accuracy of ±4 to ±20 µm and a measuring rate of up to 4 kHz. Confocal chromatic sensors are integrated into the C.C series. With a measuring rate of up to 5 kHz and an accuracy of ±0.25 µm, measurements are also possible against reflective and shiny measuring objects as well as transparent and semi-transparent foils.
The C.LP model series is used to measure the thickness of perforated metal and embossed plates as well as for roller control and quality documentation. It is equipped with laser profile scanners that deliver a measurement rate of up to 100 Hz and an accuracy of up to ±0.5 µm.
The latest O.EC model series is based on a combiSensor. This combines an inductive sensor based on eddy currents with a capacitive sensor and uses it to measure the thickness of non-conductive materials that are guided over a measuring roller. Their area of application is primarily in the stable and precise thickness measurement of foils and plastic straps.
