Food safe motors for washdown environments

ABB Automation Products

As recent tests have shown, ABB's Food Safe motors can handle even harsh washdown environments. The stainless steel housing prevents corrosion. In addition, protection class IP69 is achieved, which ensures that no damage occurs during high-pressure cleaning at high temperatures.

In addition, the motors are easy to clean and have a smooth surface with no grooves in which dirt could accumulate.

In the course of the tests, the usual cleaning processes in the food and beverage industry were simulated. A seven-step process was used to represent a full week of daily cleaning. Detergents and one-time acid were used in each phase of the process. In conventional practice, too, cleaning with acid is carried out once a week. A total of 158 cleaning cycles were carried out at temperatures of up to 55 ° C and a pressure of up to 25 bar. This corresponds to 1,106 tasks per day or 418 test hours.
