Europe's automotive industry is increasingly focusing on automation

17.06.2025 - The European automotive industry continues to invest heavily in the automation of its production, as preliminary figures from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) show.

In 2024, 23,000 industrial robots were installed in Europe, the second-best result in the last five years. The automotive sector is the leading consumer of robotics in Europe, accounting for around one-third of all industrial robots installed. Automotive production in Europe is among the most automated in the world, with six European countries ranking among the top 10 in terms of robot density.

Switzerland leads the way with a ratio of 3,876 robots per 10,000 factory workers. Within the EU, Germany, Italy, and Spain are the leaders in robot installations. Between 2019 and 2024, the average annual growth rate of robot installations in Europe grew by 3%.
