Framos opens lab for sensor-specific calibration on Nvidia Jetson platform

Embedded Vision Systems

21.04.2021 - In the so-called IQ Lab, Framos offers sensor-specific tuning to increase image quality on the Nvidia Jetson platform.

The IQ Lab's offer is aimed at companies that use sensors from the Framos Sensor Module Ecosystem in conjunction with the image signal processor (ISP) of the Nvidia Jetson platform. The lab has state-of-the-art measurement systems and the corresponding toolchains to improve the image quality of all common image sensors in interaction with the individual components of the entire camera system, promises Framos.

Specifically, the ISP is calibrated to compensate for undesirable side effects that can result from the system configuration consisting of sensor, lens, filters and lighting. The pre-processing of the processing block integrated on the Jetson platform plays a key role here: With the help of the ISP, corrections and enhancements can be applied to the image data without burdening the CPU and GPU, allowing them to process their core tasks with maximum efficiency.

Extensive measurements for higher image quality

To calibrate the setup of sensor, lens, filters and lighting, experts take over the user's Framos technology-based system and perform measurements to generate the optimal ISP configuration in subsequent steps. In doing so, they consider and correct many parameters, including color reproduction, black level compensation, error pixel and color correction, white balance, vignetting, edge light fall-off, noise performance, image sharpness, and filter compensation. IQ calibration takes hundreds of images from different scenes and processes them to produce the optimal configuration for the hardware in question.

In addition to complete configurations for the hardware, the company also offers specific calibrations and tuning for the individually configured hardware at the user's site on a project basis. If needed, additional tuning of each ISP parameter can also be subjectively performed according to the specific application to create truly unique vision products.
