Fully Automatic Access Control with Infrared Camera and AI

Safe infrared fever screening against covid-19

31.05.2022 - Recording temperatures quickly and accurately and evaluating the data within a few seconds using artificial intelligence is important for fever screening, for example, to protect the residents of a senior citizens' residence from corona infection. This system is based on an industrial infrared camera.

Nuvoola, a Canadian company focused on artificial intelligence (AI), has unveiled Luke AI, a non-contact Covid-19 screening platform for healthcare facilities, factories, and industrial plants. The system operates on Teledyne Dalsa's Calibir GX infrared camera and allows temperatures to be captured quickly and accurately, as well as the data to be analyzed using artificial intelligence. It is already in use in some senior residences in Canada.

Luke AI is the most effective solution to digitize, centralize and automate the Covid 19 screening process without human intervention, according to Nuvoola. Personnel already known to the system can be screened within 20 seconds. For individuals not yet in the system, individual screening takes about a minute.

AI-controlled fever measurement

Unlike manual temperature taking, Luke AI Screening is self-directed: the system takes each person in facilities with a known pool of residents or staff through an automated screening process, using a voice recognition and processing system and a facial recognition system. Readings without an elevated temperature are indicated with a green indicator light and the person being screened can enter the building. If fever or other symptoms are detected, an alarm is triggered and the signal lamp turns red. In this case, the person being examined is instructed to contact a medical facility for further verification and validation.

The temperature measurement is taken in the tear caruncle area of the eye, which the system detects independently, and achieves accuracy within 0.1°C. In addition to this accurate measurement, analysis of the captured data and appropriate responses are among the important requirements for an effective covid-19 detection system. Via a dynamic, centralized display function on a smartphone or PC, Luke AI enables real-time monitoring of all locations in an organization in a single view and allows the responsible employee to be informed of positive test results via real-time notification.

High dynamic range infrared camera

With its high sensitivity and precision, as well as dynamic range for broad temperature coverage and factory-calibrated radiometric performance, the Calibir GX infrared camera provides the accurate, repeatable temperature data that effective and reliable thermal sensing requires. As such, it provides the foundation for the Covid 19 screening platform, Luke AI.
