Hamamatsu Photonics expands production capacity for image measurement devices and cameras

Metrology and quality assurance

23.04.2021 - Hamamatsu Photonics gave the go-ahead on April 20, 2021, for a new building on the factory premises in Joko, Hamamatsu City, Japan. From June 2022, image measurement devices are to be manufactured in it. In addition, this expansion will create space for higher production of semiconductor failure analysis systems.

With the start of production in Building 5, the name of the new hall, the production capacity for image measuring instruments will increase to 1.7 times the current level. Hamamatsu thus aims to better serve the massive increase in demand worldwide.

The construction of the building cost around 2.2 billion yen (about 17 million euros). The floor space of just under 5,660 m2 will be distributed over five floors. A total of around 120 people will work in it.

After completion, production capacities will be reorganized within the plant, freeing up space in other buildings. The company intends to use this to expand the production of semiconductor failure analysis systems, as their sales are expected to increase with the recovery of the semiconductor memory market.
