Jenoptik sets another record year in 2019

Sales and earnings up, order backlog down

12.02.2020 -

According to provisional calculations, consolidated sales of Jenoptik rose by 2.5 percent to around 855 million euros in the past fiscal year 2019. This growth was driven among other things by high demand from the semiconductor equipment industry and the acquisitions made in 2018. In regional terms sales were strongest in America. Operating profit (Ebitda) rose by 5 percent to 134 million euros. This makes the 2019 financial year the best in the company's history, says CFO Hans-Dieter Schumacher.

The order situation is also still satisfactory, although at EUR 813 million it is 7 percent below the previous year. The Group explains this by bringing forward major orders in the semiconductor equipment business to the end of 2018 and by the slowdown in the automotive industry.

Management Board sees strategy confirmed

"Despite the overall economic slowdown, demand in the second half of 2019 improved as expected compared with the two preceding quarters in key parts of our business, so that together with the export license for Vincorion granted at the beginning of October we were able to meet our targets and even increase the profitability of the Jenoptik Group more strongly than expected", explains CEO Dr. Stefan Traeger. "With our strategy, i.e. with a stronger focus on the photonics markets, the initiatives launched for more innovation and a greater international presence, we are on the right track to align the Group to sustainable profitable growth," he adds.

In 2016 Jenoptik expanded its site in Michigan, USA. A technology campus for metrology and laser systems for the North American automotive industry was built there for around 15 million euros.

Jenoptik is divided into three photonics divisions: "Light & Optics", "Light & Production" and "Light & Safety". In addition there is the mechatronic business under the Vincorion brand. Optical technologies, systems and solutions form the basis. Key customer industries include semiconductor equipment, medical technology, the automotive industry and mechanical engineering, transportation, aviation, and security and defense technology. The Jenoptik Group employs over 4,000 people worldwide.
