PHABULOuS Pilot Line Association established

31.03.2021 - Serving the market with free-form micro-optics solution

The Phabulous Pilot Line reached a milestone with the establishment of its Phabulous Pilot Line Association. After the full review process as part of the pilot line project funded under European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation, in public-private partnership with Photonics 21, the Phabulous Pilot Line Association is now the 20th official partner of the project.

Phabulous is the European one-stop shop for the manufacturing of free-form micro-optics offering accelerated innovation & production cycles from prototypes to piloting and large volume production. The association is represented by its pilot line front office, which is now fully operational. As the legal entity of the pilot line, the association sets the guidelines for uniform and effective internal processes within the pilot line, in order to ensure high quality production services and excellent customer experience. To this extent, the association was founded as an independent legal entity and its bylaws were signed by the founding members.

The association itself was established as a non-profit making association on 19 October 2020, when the first association general assembly and executive board meeting were held. Here, the assembly named as executive board members: Dr Toralf Scharf (President) from Suss MicroOptics, Dr Paul Hartmann (Vice-President) from Joanneum Research, Dr Onno Lint from Morphotonics, Dr Veli-Pekka Leppänen from Nanocomp, Dr Oscar Fernandez from CSEM, and Richard Clarke from PowerPhotonic.

The executive board named as Dr Rolando Ferrini from CSEM as managing director. With the establishment of the association and its front office, and the Grant Agreement amendment session on 4 December 2020, Phabulous is fully operational, the front office being the single-entry point for customers.
